Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at communications@natadata.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You can contact your School Staff Liaison (SSL) / School Staff Representative (SSR) who is your first point of contact. To find out who is your SSL, please click here.

SSRs conduct NATA business, while SSLs are liaisons with the STF (Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation). Both SSRs and SSLs inform teachers on NATA and STF initiatives and educational issues while ensuring member views and problems (regarding teaching conditions, board policies, NATA activities/policies, STF activities/policies, negotiations, in-service education, PD opportunities, and curriculum issues) are relayed to the Executive Committee, Representative Assembly, and the STF. Click here for an infographic detailing their differences.

In a broad sense, the STF is more focused on negotiating for teachers on a provincial level while NATA is more focused on representing educators (inclusive of administrators and consultants) to NLSD #113.

The NATA Convention is an opportunity for professional development and networking with other teachers in our membership on an annual basis. Here are some reasons why it is important to our association:

  • It is a time to discuss northern area issues unique to our Division
  • It is two days of planned professional development for our membership by our membership
  • It is also an opportunity for one day of NATA business with our entire membership present

  • NATA Convention (Mileage, Per Diem, Professional Development Sessions and some meals – see your Convention itinerary)
  • Mileage for professional growth opportunities up to three times a year
  • Expenses for negotiation meetings for our Local Agreement (LINC) and Northern Allowance and Housing Contract Committee (NORAHC)
  • Retirement gratuity
  • Scholarships available to children of NATA members for continuing education
  • Some expenses for the new teacher induction programr to this item.

School Staff Liaisons are an important communications link between teachers and their provincial organization.  Their role is established and supported by the STF with responsibilities that include:

  1. Acting as a liaison between your colleagues and the provincial organization.
  2. Gathering and distributing information to members as requested by the provincial organization.
  3. Guiding members in your school to the resources, services and supports provided by the federation.
  4. Sharing the experiences and questions brought forward by teachers with the provincial organization.
  5. Encouraging each member in their respective school(s) to learn about the Federation and the issues it is addressing on behalf of teachers.
  6. While SSLs may also be serving as a staff representative or in other positions in the local association or provincial organization, in the role as a liaison, SSLs do not represent or speak for the school. However, they may actively assist the provincial organization in gathering and sharing the views of members to inform Federation decisions and activities.
